Spectral weapons are summoned when you hit a monster with a weapon of multiplicity. They should not be confused with the spectral blades produced by a goblin conjurer or a staff of conjuration.
A spectral weapon will attack with the same damage and somewhat less accuracy than the weapon that spawned it and will attack with the same attack pattern. A spectral spear or war pike hits up to two enemies in a line, a spectal axe attacks all adjacent enemies, a spectral mace attacks slowly, and a spectral rapier attacks quickly.
The chance of a spectral weapon appearing and the number that appear per attack are both influenced by the enchantment level and type of the weapon of multiplicity. Spectral weapons last 3 turns before disappearing.
