The goblin mystic can cast protection, sometimes carries an item and keeps its distance.
Goblin mystics are dangerous because they can make their friends (goblin conjurers and plain old goblins) near impossible to kill if you can't deal damage quickly enough. If you can get the pack to spread out, you can usually kill off the aggressive goblins, leaving the mystics. Then hide behind a door and hit them whenever they come through. If there is more than one mystic it is worth it to seperate them, as it is very difficult to kill them when they protect each other (which incidentally is why it is very nice to have two goblin mystic allies).
As an ally
Goblin mystics frequently turn up in cages, and in chains. Value your newly saved friends highly. Unlike an allied salamander, a goblin mystic ally is almost always good to have. His main weakness is vulnerability to negation (for example, caused by pixies).
